BCDash: Now You Know Everything

The entertainment business has gotten a lot more complicated in the Net age, with more people consuming more media than ever before. And we know more than ever about who they are, where they are, exactly what they like, and why.

BigChampagne analyzes more information about media consumption than anyone else on the planet. In fact, we collect information about literally billions of titles (songs, movies, television, games, software) from all over the globe, and then analyze the behaviors of millions of consumers.

Where entertainment goes, we go. We continually strive to incorporate more information about online consumption, from more sources. Our mission has always been, "follow the consumer." That means when people start interacting with popular entertainment in new ways, we get there first.

The BCDash is an unprecedented toolset for examining marketing impressions and consumer response. "Input" is gathered from broadcasters, retailers, web communities, our strategic partners at Nielsen Entertainment, and global file sharing networks.

Instructions for using the free public version of the BCDash are detailed below.

BC Director's Commentary

Making sense of the madness. The Director's Commentary, like the popular audio track accompanying a DVD release, offers insider expertise and unique insight. The BCDC focuses on the artists and titles making moves, so check back often and you'll always have at least one eye on the future. Use the "Talk Back" button to sound off about anything on your mind (we always want to know what you're thinking), and you may just end up contributing to the BCDash.

Charts analyzed in the Director's Commentary are included in our Featured chart category (see Free Charts, below).

Free Charts

The BCDash charts are the foundation of BigChampagne's reporting products. A handful of these charts are available to non-subscribers.

To get familiar with the information, start by checking out the latest Featured Charts described in each Director's Commentary, or use the simple navigation tools at the bottom of the page to choose and arrange your own.

First, review the list of categories (bottom left).

Next, click on the category (or kind of chart) you need. Retail charts include information about the most popular artists and songs sold, for instance. Broadcast charts focus on the most popular songs played by broadcasters online and off.

When you click on the name of a chart category, available charts will appear in the pane at the bottom of the page as logo art. For instance, you may see colorful logos for iTunes, Napster, or Yahoo! Music presented side by side.

To expand each chart, just click on the logo. The expanded chart appears in the large pane above.

Now you may continue to browse the charts by category, clicking logos to expand additional charts.

Using your mouse, simply drag and drop to rearrange (or move) the charts so that you can compare any number of them.

If you wish to close any chart (remove it from your view), click the word "Close" or the red letter "X" at the bottom right of the chart – the chart disappears.

To remove all of the currently selected charts from your view, look to the bottom right area of the large center pane and click on the words, "Click here to close all charts."

Now, you have a clean slate and may begin to add new charts to your view, repeating the steps described above.
